Be Not Afraid

You shall cross the barren desert,
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety,
though you do not know the way.

You shall speak your words in foreign lands,
and all will understand,
You shall see the face of God and live.

Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

If you pass through raging waters
in the sea, you shall not drown.
If you walk amidst the burning flames,
you shall not be harmed.

If you stand before the pow’r of hell
and death is at your side,
know that I am with you, through it all

Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

Blessed are your poor,
for the Kingdom shall be theirs.
Blest are you that weep and mourn,
for one day you shall laugh.

And if wicked men insult and hate you, all because of Me,
blessed, blessed are you!

Be not afraid,
I go before you always,
Come follow Me,
and I shall give you rest.

Ok God. I am not afraid. Lead me.

Belt 3 and 5

For those who have heightened level of awareness on their nutritional intake, the word ‘belt’ is not referring to something you wear around your waist. And if you somewhat my travel plan, it is easy to deduce its about luggage belt in the airport (unless you are very blur)

I arrived at Jakarta international airport, Soekarno-Hatta (named after the duo who proclaimed Indonesia’s independence), last night. My Valuair flight was enjoyable despite few minutes of turbulence which should be quote normal unless you have heard Adam Air’s black box recording before the flight.

ps: Indonesia’s Transportation Minister said the recording is a fake, so listen at your own discretion.

ps: I have removed the download link for the recording since someone’s said that distributing black box record (fake or otherwise) is a violation of the law... so yea

For some reason, the immigration process was rather… smooth (surprised). I immediately went to belt 5 where baggages from my flight were supposed to be delivered (the information was displayed at LCD screen). Here was the thing that I saw for at least 5 mins.

Valuair passengers were waiting at belt number 5

Stoned passengers

Bored and hungry, I decided to stroll around and take a few photos using my nifty K800. To my surprise, I saw my luggage hapilly stranded on belt number 3!!! Together with many of suitcases from my flight (VH 505). Haiz… belt 5 and 3 is at least 50 metres apart.

I had seen some of the fellow VH505 passengers decided to take a stroll like me. I guess they would find the truth sooner or later especially with me waving at them from afar (yes I was too lazy to walk for some reason) I took my luggage and immediately evacuated myself from the airport.

Here are some of the photos that I have taken. Not good …

Money changers and taxi counters that greets you after you have ‘cleared’ the arrival process. The guy in green shirt is one of the porters who will kindly help bring your luggages for a small fee. Usually they poach and hog the trolley.

People who waited outside the arrival hall. My parents were among those people.

On Eagle’s Wing

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in His shadow for life,
say to the Lord: “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!”

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear:
under His wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

For to His angels He’s given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

Internship ends and few closures

My internship ends and I am doing my pre- packing now. Putting two years of all good things inside one luggage is indeed difficult - physically or otherwise. Well… time flies. Moreover, I still need to do a few closures before my departure on the 9th of August. And since from now until August 9 is not exactly long, coupled with my short visit to Jakarta (2-7th of August - yes, tonight), I guess I need to rush a lot of stuff if I want to have a proper closure.

So… apologies for such a short post. My reality is still defined outside this blog anyway. I will post something longer soon.

Last two days…

Last two days of internship. I guess they want to squeeze every bit of my life force… I do not even have time to upgrade to WP 2.6

Oh yes… the password for the protected post should be quite obvious for those who have seen it.

God Will Make A Way

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me

He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength
For each new day

He will make a way
He will make a way
By a roadway in the wilderness
He’ll lead me

And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today

Plagiarism? you judge

This song, titled Aspalela, is a recent hit in Malaysia. Though I have taken Malay class back then in Sec 3 and Sec4, I barely able to decypher the lyrics. Some people said the tone is very similar to Indonesia’s children song of ‘Abang Tukang Bakso‘ (‘Meatballs Seller’). I have no nothing to say. You hear it for yourself. Ignore the lyrics.

This is the Aspalela

This is the ‘Meatball’ seller which had been popularized by Melisa few decades ago

Wondering if all the copyright issue has been settled. All songs are hosted at imeem.

— added

Oh my! Sylvia (see comment #1) mentioned that in addition to similar ‘kiddish tone’, the melody of Aspalela also similar to another old  Indonesian song ‘Bintang Kejora” (’Morning Star’). It is very difficult to get the online copy of that song but here is it or you to compare (contain a lot of noise but this is the only copy I could find so far).

People with tuned ears are indeed more sensitive to this kind of thing.

Dynamic of USA Travel Industry (Insider Info)

Some of the information I am going to present below may not be accurate and some part of the information may be classified. My source which is supposed to be quite obvious by now said this change will be implemented starting September 2008. So… still got to prepare for the change in Singapore - USA (air) travel industry.

I will present in point form since… I am lazy. Most of them are verbatim.

  • An A380 aircraft requires USD350,000.00 as at present, worth of jet fuel each round trip to New York from Singapore. There will be more such big birds in the sky soon, with SQ accruing a few more such aircrafts.
  • The crunch here is travel on coach or economy class is going to be phased out for such aircrafts.  The airfare on economy class does not cover the operating cost for the airlines.
  • Currently, there is only one flight operating to New York from Singapore via Frankfurt.  The seats on economy class for the flights Singapore/New York/Singapore is near impossible to get hold of.  Why you may ask? This is due to the strong Euro Dollar.  It is lucrative for the airlines to board passengers from Frankfurt to New York as the airfare is higher than that from Singapore to New York.
  • The number of seats bound to USA will be decreased as SQ will stop flying Taipei/Los Angeles route.  Eva Air is going to cut some of their USA destinations and China Airlines will stop flying Taipei/Seattle.
  • Thai International has stopped flying to New York and will be down sizing their aircrafts for long haul sectors.
  • The route left for most USA bound flights is via Tokyo. The Japanese market for flights from Japan to USA is still very lucrative and the airfare is higher than that from Singapore, therefore, here again the airline would shift their flight load to board passengers from Japan rather than from Singapore.
  • All the above boils down to the possibility of getting seats out of Singapore to USA, making it near impossible.
  • Domestic carriers within USA, will be charging for check in baggage at 1st piece USD40 and 2nd piece USD25 up to a maximum weight of 23 kg.
  • Travelers are going to be inconvenienced, as they would have to queue up to have their baggage weighted and paid for prior to boarding pass issuance.
  • Minimum connecting times between flights would now have to be extended to at least 4 hours to clear both security and payment of check-in baggage, especially for year end home leave travel.
  • Number of USA domestic flights would be reduced and the weekday/weekend fares will be reinstated at a higher fare level.  The weekday fares are estimated to cost at between 50 – 70% more than that of weekend fares.
  • Please book and ticket early especially for year end travel back to USA and where possible do not change schedules booked as it is going to be difficult to get seats from Singapore.
  • Expect drastic changes in the industry as airlines will be taking measures to be viable in this difficult economic times in the USA.

Sounds possible…

My Music Playlist at Imeem

Admit it, internship can be an boring affair. Sometimes they just let you sit for the whole day doing nothing. Sure Facebook helps. And so does MSN. Still, I miss my music collection.

Thanks to Imeem: Not only I could listen the song I have in my desktop but also tap to one of the largest music library on the internet… free of charge (legally). Just like any web 2.0 project, it is Imeem’s users that actually upload the music to Imeem. Remarkable indeed.

And yes… it is legal as Imeem has made some kind of pact with WMG.

I am incredibly happy to report that we have reached a deal with Warner Music Group that allows us to stream the full length versions of Warner music and video to imeem members in the United States.

While the legality of listening to imeem is not exactly covering members in this little island, I am sure it does not matter so much in this age of internet. At least people like me who are not really included in the deal can have some sort of a piece of mind, knowing that the artist will be paid somehow.

We at IMEEM are doing our best to build a cool website that’s fun for you as well as makes sure artists GET PAID. I hope you guys are all as excited as I am to have this great content up on the site.

Full article can be seen here

As I could get access to many (literally many many many) music files using Imeem, I started this hobby: creating playlist which is super easy since I do not need to upload anything. My playlists contain mostly songs that I love to hear… with few exceptions. My playlist can be found here.
